Munich beer festival - 19th September - 4th October
The festivities take place in vast marquees hosted by various Munich breweries, each seating around several thousand people. The opening parade starts on the Saturday morning when the breweries with their horse drawn carriages and various folk groups in traditional costumes parade through the streets of Munich stopping at the 'Theresienwiese'. At noon the Mayor pulls Oktoberfests first 'beer mug' to mark the start of the festivities.
The festivals world reknown beer, delicious food and traditonal music help to create a unique and vibrant atmosphere. Outside the tents the giant funfair which features the traditional attractions and high-tech white knuckle rides make it also a great and popular family occassion.
