Lanzarote
Introduction
Lanzarote benefits from its closeness to the Sahara Desert with its striking landscape and long sunny days. Life here is strongly centred around the sea, the island is excellent for windsurfing, snorkelling and aqualung diving and there are some marvellous beaches. For something different you can get away from it all with either a visit to the dramatic landscape surrounding Fire Mountain or travel to the remote beaches of Papagayo in the south. The night-life is generally low key, however, Puerto Del Carmen offers a good variety of restaurants, bars and clubs.

Puerto Del Carmen
Lanzarote's largest resort, Puerto del Carmen is a bustling resort that has an excellent sandy beach backed by plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. Nightlife is varied with a large number of cocktail bars and a good selection of nightclubs. The old town is more tranquil retaining more of the original Spanish flavour. Although originally separate, the resorts of Playa Los Pocillos and Matagorda have now become areas of Puerto del Carmen.
Costa Tequise
A modern, purpose built resort consisting of low-rise, white washed buildings and wide, tree lined avenues. More sophisticated than its neighbouring resorts, Costa Teguise has five beaches with Las Cucharas being the most popular. Here you will find a large range of watersports ranging from windsurfing to scuba diving. Most of the evening entertainment is based in the complexes, however, the resort boasts numerous fine bars and restaurants.
Playa Blanca
A tranquil resort, this is a great place to escape the crowds and relax. The village centre is small with only a few shops. On the seafront and around the pretty harbour there is a good selection of restaurants and outdoor cafes serving freshly caught fish. Nightlife in the resort is mainly centred around the hotels. The resort's three soft, sandy coves and the secluded golden sands of Papagayo closeby, are the main attractions for visitors.
Matagorda
The small resort of Matagorda has grown up around its beach. Situated a couple of kms or so down the coast road from Puerto del Carmen, Matagorda has an excellent soft, sandy beach and a renowned windsurfing school. The bars, restaurants and shops will satisfy anyone seeking a quiet and relaxing holiday, but for a change of pace Puerto del Carmen's nightlife is nearby.
