According to mytholodgy, Mykonos was formed by the petrified bodies of the giants that Herculed killed. Later the island was named after the hero Myknono who was descended form Apollo. Reputed to have some of the best sandy beaches in the Aegean Sea, there is a beach for every taste. The film 'Shirley Valentine' was filmed on one of Mykonos' beaches.
