Introduction

Sweden's second city is a fantastic city break destination. It is also a natural starting point from which to explore the amazing West Coast of Sweden.

The City

This lively, cosmopolitan city, with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere has plenty to keep everyone interested. Lying on the west coast, Gothenburg is a compact city, a mix of old and new, where well-preserved old districts combine with more recently developed areas. Mnay of the main sights are within easy walking distance and the wide avenues and parks create a sense of space. The city is divided by the river Gota Alv, which flows out into the stunning archipelago.

Gourmet Delights

Seafood is a specialality of the area and the main culinary attraction - choose from freshly fished prawns, crabs, lobster and wide selection of fish. You will find some of Gothenburg's restaurants in the Guide Rouge (formerly the Michelin Guide) and several of Sweden's top chefs are to be found here. There is a great variety of restaurants from gourmet, international, and traditional to bistro, Italian and fast food. There are also a great many cafes and passtisseries to fill any gaps!

Fantastic Family Fun!

Among the many family attractions in Gothenburg is the Liseberg Theme Park. Sweden's most popular tourist attraction has a choice of 33 action-packed rides, entertainment attractions, cafes, bars and restaurants. Christmas is a particular special time to visit with the park decorated with over 3 million lights, over 100 christmas market stalls, festive rides and a visit to see the Santa Liseberg Bunny is a must.

The Achipelagos

West Sweden, with Gothenburg as its gateway, comprises the provinces Bohuslän (rocky coastline and picturesque fishing villages), Dalsland (Sweden's lake district) and Västergötland (many historical sites including beautiful castles and manor houses).
