To the surprise of some, the gastronomy of Lapland is full of exotic delicacies. The fells, forests and marshes north of the Arctic Circle offer venison, ptarmigan and wood grouse, not to mention the reindeer meet which has always been the heart of the Sami cuisine.
From the crystal clear waters of the free flowing rivers and mountain lakes come salmon, whiting, grayling and arctic char. A delicious dessert is easily prepared from the cloudberries, blueberries, lingonberries and arctic bramble, which in late summer add wonderful colour to the marshes and moors.
Icehotel restaurantThe restaurant is not made of ice. So for an extra touch of the Arctic many dishes are served on ice plates made from the crystal clear ice of the Torne River.
The cuisine of ICEHOTEL Restaurant has been featured in gourmet magazines around the world and has been awarded the prestigious Werner Vögeli Statuette.
The Old Homestead RestaurantThe à la Carte menu in a cosy environment. Situated only 800 metres from ICEHOTEL and overlooking the Torne River is the genuine Old Homestead. In this historical log building, dating from 1768, guests are offered a well composed À la Carte Menu in a cosy environment. Wilderness Camp
During our daytrips and overnight excursions to Wilderness Camps, meals are prepared in cabins situated along the beautiful shores of the Torne River.
Join us on a wilderness camp adventure where we cook our meals beneath the open sky and experience the great outdoors north of the Arctic Circle. ICEHOTEL arranges tailor made daytrips and overnight excursions.
During winter we venture into the wilderness by snowmobile or dogsled. In summer we go river rafting or explore the wilderness on foot, hiking in the magnificent land of the midnight sun.
We prepare our meals in kåtor, Sami style huts, situated along the beautiful shores of the Torne River and enjoy the delicacies of the local cuisine by the open fire. A warming soup or a three course gourmet dinner – the surrounding wilderness adds an extra spice to the occasion.
On our overnight excursions we stay at specially equipped camps in secluded locations. After an adventurous day in the outdoors the hot sauna offers great relaxation before dinner. The night is spent in basic but comfortable cabins sleeping 5-6 persons. After an adventurous day your sleeping bag provides a good night’s sleep.
Daytrips to wilderness camps last 3-4 hours and overnight excursions can be arranged for a minimum of one night. Tours depart from ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi. More extensive excursions can also be arranged to wilderness destinations in northern Sweden, Norway and Finland.
