Fuerteventura, the second largest of the Canary Islands lies less than 95km off the African coast. The island enjoys an almost perfect climate, the warmth of Africa tempered by the cooling Atlantic breezes. It has spectacular desert-like scenery, scattered with windmills and little whitewashed houses, plus mile upon mile of untouched sandy beaches. Fuerteventura is the least populated of the Canary Islands, people come for its tranquility and it is therefore no surprise that the nightlife is very low key. However, Fuerteventura has its share of genuinely welcoming bars and restaurants offering some of the best fish dishes to be found in the Canary Islands.
